America has become a well-traveled little 3-month-old girl. On June 27, America, Jessica, Granny Shinn, and myself all set out to visit family in Ravenswood, West Virginia. We stayed with Jessica’s dad while we were there, and it was very relaxing. I didn’t have a computer with me, and that was a comfort in itself. However, I occasionally checked my email on my father-in-law’s computer. America also met her Uncle Darrell and Aunt Delores, who are two of the nicest people I’ve ever met in my life.
America also got to visit the Auction House while we were in Ravenswood. Jessica doesn’t get into the whole auction thing like I do, but I really like it. The people who come to the auction aren’t pretentious, and that’s my kind of people. They truly are the kind of people who are “what you see is what you get” and I like that.
The 27 South Band (which I play bass for) had a gig at Fort Boonesboro State Park on June 30. It was more or less a 4th of July celebration with food and fireworks. After we stopped playing the fireworks started. They were launching them about 100 yards down the beach from us, so they were loud from where we were located. When I went over to check on America, I expected her to be crying hysterically, but instead she was wide-eyed and loving the colorful fireworks. I was shocked, to say the least! I mean, this is the same child who cries when one of our dogs barks. But I really should have expected her to do the unexpected. There have been many times that I thought Jessica would react to something in one way, but she reacted in the completely opposite way. I see that trait in America from time to time.
Well, all I can say is that I love this little girl more than I can even put into words. That may sound cliche, but I’m completely crazy over this girl. I look forward to picking her up every day when I get off work. I get to spend about an hour with her by myself and I love that time. I look at her and see myself looking back at me (only in a little girl version). I sing and play the guitar for her and she just sits there watching me and smiles, and laughs, and kicks her feet. Sometimes while I’m singing to her I see her moving her mouth like she’s trying to talk, so maybe someday she’ll sing along with me.
Well anyway, here are some pictures from America’s first visit to Ravenswood, and also some of her at the beach at Fort Boonesboro.
The first picture is of America and her Papaw watching the musicians at the Thursday-night music gathering down in the park on the Ohio River in Ravenswood.
The second picture is of the Auction House which is one of my favorite places to go when we visit Ravenswood.
The third picture is of America and Mommy at the Auction House.
The fourth picture is of America at the Hillbilly Hot Dog Stand (one of Mommy’s favorite places in West Virginia).
The fifth picture is just a picture of a bunch of license plates stuck to a tree at the Hillbilly Hot Dog Stand.
The sixth picture is of America with her new favorite toy, the Glow Worm. This was taken by Jessica on the way back home.
The seventh picture is America at the beach at Fort Boonesboro Park. My band had a gig there that evening (I think I mentioned that).
The eighth picture is me holding America and her giving a gesture that seems to say “Rock On Poppa!”, but I really think she’s just showing off her new gold bracelet that her Papaw got for her in West Virginia. Notice the shirt though!
The ninth and tenth pictures are of America on Sunday morning after getting ready for church. These are two of my favorite pictures of her.
