We took America for her 2-week checkup on Tuesday. We were somewhat surprised to see she had gained nearly a pound in a week, and had grown 2.25 inches longer, and her head had grown 1/2 centimeter. Needless to say, our little girl is growing fast!
I’ve been asked several times about how we are sleeping, and I have a hard time answering this question. I mean, we’re definitely missing out on some sleep, but the trade-off is well worth it. No matter what time of the day America wakes up (even at 3am) I want to get up with her. I can’t get enough of holding her, and hugging her, and kissing her on her little head. I love it when she looks at me when I’m feeding her! I want to laugh at her when I can see bits of her personality already showing, like when we change her diaper and she immediately gets upset when we start changing her. It seems she has that “touch-me-not” quality that I’ve seen so many times in Jessica. I also love it when I try to burp her and she lays on my chest and puts her arms up on my shoulder and my chest and looks around until she either burps or falls asleep (or we both fall asleep). If she falls asleep, I try to get her to wake back up and take the rest of her bottle, but when I put the bottle up to her lips, she closes her lips tightly as if to say “Leave me alone, I don’t want it!”
I have to get up at 5-5:30am on Monday and Friday, so I have trouble getting back to sleep after I feed America in the wee hours of the morning, but it’s worth the loss of sleep in order to spend time with her. I think about her all day when I’m at work, and I look at her pictures throughout the day.
I’ve also enjoyed all the visitors who come to our house to see America! Before she came along, Jessica and I rarely had visitors, but now we have visitors nearly every day (well, America has visitors every day).
No doubt life has changed for us, but it’s so much better now. I used to be worried that I couldn’t change a poop-diaper, but I’ve even done that twice now without puking or even gagging. Oh trust me it stinks, but I’ve been able to tough it out and do it.
I LOVE MY LITTLE GIRL, AND I LOVE BEING A DAD!
Kevin you’ll never know how pecial those words will be to her when she gets older and able to read them and truly understand what wonderful parents she has. I hope to see you all soon.
Heather
