It has been a rough 2 weeks to say the least. It started off with the wonderful news we’re having a Baby Girl and a trip into Gymboree for her first “girl outfit”. After eating lunch we headed home and on the way I realized that I didn’t feel well, but I wasn’t sick either. I spoke with Dr. D who told me that taking the rest of the afternoon off was okay and home to bed I went. I woke up on Wednesday not feeling well at all and vomitting, so I called in sick. By 10:00 that night I was in severe pain and we headed to the ER here in Paris. After blood work and an ultrasound it was determined that I had kidney stones. They sent me home with pain medicine and orders to see my OB in the morning. Thursday I saw my OB and he referred me to a urologist who scheduled me for a test to see how many and where the stone(s) were on Friday morning. I actually ended up being admitted to the hospital at Saint Joe East later that night. On Friday mid-day I was feeling well and had no pain or further symptoms so my OB released me. Saturday evening the pain was back and I went once again to the ER here in Paris for them to simply get me comfortable so that I could make the trip back to Saint Joe East, but instead they made me a direct admission to East and I was scheduled for surgery to remove the stone on Sunday morning. My surgeon/urologist never showed and I had been pain-free for 14 hours so once again I was sent home. 4:30 Monday morning…another “attack”! I took the meds that I had here and toughed it out until the urologists office opened at 9 by which time I was vomitting. Another admission only this time to Georgetown Community Hospital and surgery was scheduled for 7:30 on Tuesday. Finally after 3 admissions in 10 days the end was in sight! I had the surgery and the urologist put in a stint which was taken out 3 days later. Kevin said that the stone was “vicious” and large. After my surgery I had an ultrasound and RubyRed is doing great. I was told by more than one of my nurses who have had children and kidney stones that they would take childbirth over the stones any day. I guess I’ll soon find out!
