Several years ago Kevin and I started our journey towards parenthood! In 2001 I had my 1st miscarriage. Believing that everything happens for a reason, we decided that it just wasn’t “our” time and that “it” would happen someday! Fast forward to Summer 2005, we decided to seek medical advice. Kevin went first and all parts were (are) in working order. We began using the fertility drug Clomid. After 3 failed cycles, I underwent a hysterosalpingogram which was normal and thus began intrauterine inseminations (aka artificial insemination). Our first IUI resulted in a positive pregnancy, but it was short lived. Following this miscarriage our MD did a round of bloodwork and discovered that I have antiphospholipid syndrome. He started me on Aspirin and Dexamethasone in an effort to combat the antibodies that prevent me from carrying to term. Two more failed IUI attempts brought us to international adoption. We decided sometime ago that if we had not succeeded on our own, this would be the route that we would take. So it was decided as of August 5 2006: international adoption, China, a girl, Ella Grayce would be her name, and we would have all paperwork ready to go by December 30, 2006, my 30th birthday, which is a requirement of China! We attended a adoption seminar August 5th and knew that we were making the right decision! The first step was to submit our application and fee to the agency we chose. I had this ready to go the following Monday, but hesitated due to having done one last cycle of Clomid in July. On August 11th Kevin and I purchased a home pregnancy test and it was POSITIVE! What a suprise! Monday, August 14th my HCG level was 500 and a repeat on Wednesday, August 16th showed it at 1391! My first appointment is scheduled for Monday the 21st…
